Ringtones are the coolest things, right? Yes, we all love ringtones. While setting a ringtone on your phone seems pretty easy but it is not the same with iphone users. Setting a ringtone for iphone users is a hassle. Apple defines its own set of policies, and the users has to comply with their terms. Apple is very strict when it comes to illegal softwares, music and all its content. It doesn’t let users to set ringtones of their choice. The users need to buy only those ringtones and music that is provided by Apple.
But don’t worry, there is a work around for this problem. You can set a ringtone of your own choice by using an app called Garageband. It is worth buying/downloading from the app store. This method to set custom ringtone on iPhone doesn’t require your computer or iTunes.
Set Any Song as Ringtone on iPhone without iTunes or Computer:
Before you begin the process, make sure that you add your favourite song to the apple music library (Music App). The latest version of garageband allows you to use the song from icloud drive as well, and set it as your choice of ringtone.
Download Garageband from AppStore. Open the app. You will see the below screen. Click on the plus (+) sign at the top left corner.
You will be asked to select Tracks or Live Loops option. Select Tracks and click on any of the instruments. I selected Keyboard.
You will see a screen like below. Click the View button highlighted in red at the top left.
Now tap the Loop button on the top right of the screen. In the menu select the Music tab and choose a song.
Once you select a song of your choice long press the track (song) and drag it on the left side just under the instrument timeline.
Now click the plus (+) sign on the top right corner of the screen above the timeline. Then click on the area where it shows the number of bars.
Turn off the Automatic option in the Section Length and set a value in Manual to something less, say 15 or 20 (this will be the length of the song. you can adjust it as per your requirement).
Notice that the track/song has two adjustment ends. Slide it left and right to adjust the starting and ending point in the song. You can also double tap the song to loop the song or split it.
Once you are satisfied with the selection, click the drop down arrow on the top left corner and click My Songs.
By default the ringtone you created will be saved as My Song with sequence numbers. You can rename it by tapping on the ringtone name. Then click on the Select button on the top right corner as shown. And select the newly created ringtone.
By selecting the ringone click the Share button on the top left corner of the screen.
Then select Ringtone option.
Give a name to your ringtone and then click Export button to add the newly created ringtone file to Apple’s ringtone library. Next it will prompt you to select how you want the ringtone to be used. You can either set it as a ringtone or a text tone.
You can create multiple ringtones and switch them whenever needed, from Settings -> Sounds -> Ringtone and choosing the ringtone of your choice.
