In my previous post, I told you how to send email from any email address to anyone. I also promised in my last post that I will also write on how to verify whether an email is real or fake. So today I will show you the method to verify this. I cannot tell that this method works 100%, because most of the spammers try to make the email look very real so as to prevent the users from identifying them. But we can verify the email by using some of the techniques I am going to show.
Now coming to the procedure. Firstly note that 95% of the fake emails are stored in Spam folder. If an email has arrived in your spam folder, then it means that the email provider has automatically found it as spam and sent it to spam folder. So, try to be more careful while checking an email in your spam folder.
But its not compulsory that all the emails that you recieve in your Inbox(other than spam folder) are not fake. Sometimes fake mails also get slipped into your inbox folder.
Now let’s see how to verify an email. Firstly, Open any email and click on the more arrow in the header. And now from the drop down list click Show Original see the below image.
Now a new window will open with the details like below…
These are the details of an original and real email. You can observe that the email came from mailing application iconicware. As you can observe that the return path and the Message Id is matching. You can also observe that the iconicware text is found in most of the places of this screenshot. So we can assume that this is a real email.
There are so many things to see. If you find something suspicious then you may assume it is a fake email. Check the below screenshot. It is the screenshot of the details of a fake email.
In the above screenshot you can observe that the return path is from constantcontact and the Message Id is from something called scheduler. This is a bit suspicious. So we can assume this might be a fake email.
Now observe one more screenshot of a fake email’s details page.
In the above screenshot you can clearly observe that the From address is from spamtest.com. You can also observe that the message id is suspicious. its something nonsense xwhhef. So we can confirm this email also as a fake email.
In every email, By seeing itself we can observe that whether that email is real or fake. On checking the See Original page, we can find many details like what was the SMTP server used to send email, from which website it was send, and what is the reply-to email. By observing all these we can confirm whether an email is real or fake.
